Hello, fellow Ozians!
We have completed the first book in the series of Oz and I don’t know about you but I found it to be truly fascinating. I’m also glad to move on to the next book that should have zero points of reference for any of us. No movie to bring to mind as we read along to confuse us. Blank slate. This should be fun.
In case you didn’t know, along with each chapter I try to get a discussion thread started in the comments section. Whatever your thoughts are on each chapter, please do share them.
Our little community has surpassed 400! Crazy, I know! And I’d love to reach a point where everyone is reading along. So, don’t forget to hit that LIKE (aka heart) button at the end of each chapter. I use this as a great reminder to myself when I’ve read a chapter.
And now, with the first book finished, I wanted to check-in, get your thoughts on how it went and your opinion on certain aspects as we move forward:
You have THREE days (72hrs) to answer the 4 questions below. Thank you for taking the time.
With that out of the way, a quick rundown on “what’s next.” I want to apologize ahead of time as you’ll notice 3 emails this first week of May. But here’s what to expect this week:
May 1st | 4th Oz Gazette issue and it’s got some really cool things in it so please be sure to read it all.
May 5th | Authors Note + Table of Contents for The Marvelous Land of Oz.
May 6th | 1st chapter of The Marvelous Land of Oz.
A NOTE ON CHAPTER #’s
One thing I wanted to mention as it was brought to my attention that seeing the chapter #’s in the Subject of the emails can be off-putting to newcomers if they join after we’ve started and see “chapter XVII” or something and feel like they’ll never be able to catch-up. I don’t want to make anyone feel that way. Therefore, instead of putting the chapter number in the Subject it will be in the “sub-title” and the Subject line from now on will be “Chapter Title - Book Title.” So, for example, the email for chapter one will arrive as:
Tip Manufactures a Pumpkinhead - The Land of Oz
Sub-Title: CHAPTER I
This is a test run for the second book. If it doesn’t confuse people too much it will stay like this moving forward. If it just doesn’t look right for some reason, I’ll just change it back to how it was for the first book when we reach book three.
And finally, with reading two chapters each week it means we can get through a book in three months instead of six! At the end of July will be another poll and update to help us wrap up this year with book three.
If you have any other ideas or suggestions or just general thoughts I’d love to hear them in the comments.
A Quick Poll and Update
I’m having a wonderful (lol) time! One piece of feedback, that you may not be able to do anything about: midway through book 1, the narrator of the audio files changed and... imo the original narrator was far superior (less likely to pause oddly mid-phrase). I super appreciate you including audio files, but thought now might be the time to mention it.
I know I'm late to the party, but I'm having a really good time catching up. I'm an avid reader with a really weird work schedule, so IRL book clubs have always been hard for me, but this has been perfect. I hope to catch up at some point to see all of the excitement in real time, but even if I don't, I'm really glad this is all here! Thank you Erica <3
