MESSAGE FROM THE CO-EDITOR
It’s time for me to step out from behind the curtain and take ownership for the Oz Gazette, website, and server. Moving forward, L. Frank Baum will still be credited in the byline for the chapters, but you’ll see
(that’s me) in the byline of these monthly issues, comments, and everything else. Hello! We’ve started the 2nd book and I’m so excited! Let’s see what this issue brings and how many of us have kept up with reading the first third of the book.- Erica Drayton, of

NEWS NEWS NEWS
Normally, right at the top I put reading stats and catch-up chapters. But I’m too excited to share the link to the Beyond the Wizard Discord Server that I decided to put it up here. So, CLICK THIS LINK already and come on in! Take a look around and let’s discuss (in realtime) how we can make this community even better.
READING UPDATE
Not to be confused with the CHAPTER CATCH-UP below. This is just a place where I like to share that graph to show how many of us are reading the chapters each week. We’re already 1/3 of the way through the book! Very exciting! Share your thoughts in the comments!
MAY CHAPTER CATCH-UP
CHAPTER I.—Tip Manufactures a Pumpkinhead.
CHAPTER II.—The Marvelous Powder of Life.
CHAPTER III.—The Flight of the Fugitives.
CHAPTER IV.—Tip Makes an Experiment in Magic.
CHAPTER V.—The Awakening of the Saw horse.
CHAPTER VI.—Jack Pumpkinhead’s Ride to the Emerald City.
CHAPTER VII.—His Majesty the Scarecrow.
CHAPTER VIII.—Gen. Jinjur’s Army of Revolt.
TIME FOR ANOTHER POLL?
If you’re wondering why I’m asking, it’s because I know 100% of you came across this newsletter from Substack, so I assume some if not all of you are likely using the app or that you’ve been to the URL of our newsletter at least once? Well, if you haven’t lately, the new layout looks pretty and I just wanted to show it off really quickly to anyone who may not be aware of those changes. You don’t have to visit the website if you don’t want to (unless you are attempting to catch up on previous chapters/books) but in case you do, check this out:
You may not have noticed the change and that could be a good thing or a bad thing. Either way, here is a look at the change I’m referring to:
Old Chapter Naming Convention: CHAPTER # - - The Wizard of Oz
Old Subtitle: CHAPTER NAME
New Chapter Naming Convention: Chapter Name - - The Land of Oz
New Subtitle: CHAPTER #
The reason for the change is based on what you see when you receive an email. In the past you would see the chapter # and name of the book. Now, you’ll see the Chapter title and name of the book in the subject line. My decision is based on not making people feel like they can’t just join right on in if they see that we are on CHAPTER XX, for instance. But I care what you think as a part of the community and I have no problem changing it all back if this new way seems strange.
A PDF PUBLICATION IS COMING!
I’ve always wanted to have my own print newspaper. Don’t ask me why, I just have. And I’ve seen plenty of one-pager style publications that are made as a PDF and shared. I’m toying with the idea of converting the Oz Gazette into an email but also a fancy PDF that can be printed if you want. It will give me a chance to flex my Adobe InDesign chops that I haven’t done in quite some time. Let’s aim for September 1st as the official kick-off of the PDF Publication of The Oz Gazette. This will give all of you a chance to help me with design in the Discord Server. And if you don’t join the discord, never fear, you can still give me your thoughts as I will share samples in the July and August issues with plenty of poll questions for you to answer!
