I read almost all of Baum’s books as a child but somehow missed this one. Therefore, this story is new to me, and I’m really anticipating the elderly Gales’ reaction to being instantly transported to Oz.

"It has nine thousand, six hundred and fifty-four buildings, in which lived fifty-seven thousand three hundred and eighteen people, up to the time my story opens." If I am given specific numbers, I sometimes get curious about them. That's... what, about 6 people per building? Overall, more people than I was picturing to be honest. According to the 1910 census on Wikipedia, that's about the size of Cleveland's population (6th most populous city in the USA) at the time.
